You guys are always asking how I curl and style my hair. I think the first thing to having great hair is all about how you take care of it and prep it. That's a whole other topic and should be a separate post BUT I will say since becoming a hair stylist I have pretty much tried every styling product under the sun. I have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't work by now. With that being said, today I thought I would share the 5 products I've found to work the best for any hair type and will give you the longevity you need to have a great hairstyle that lasts for days.
I naturally have curly hair so when I blow dry and curl my hair it tends to curl easier and the style lasts for weeks. With the right products, you can make straight hair curl and last for days as well. I'm all about finding products that work great but yet feel weightless as if nothing is on your hair at all. The trick I've found if I want my style to last at least 3-4 days is starting out with it curled a little bit tighter. As the days go on the curls will loosen and you will have a different hair style look as the days go by and all you have to do is add a couple products and you're good to go, simple as that!
Here are my Top 5 Styling products. At the bottom of the post, you can shop them all.
The first product is Living Proof Full Thickening Mousse. It's used right after you towel dry your hair to get volume. This is great for any hair type and texture. I used to think because my hair was pretty thick, curly and had pretty good natural volume I didn't need a volumizing thickening mousse. It's almost even better for people with my hair type because the more hair you have the more it gets weighed down so using this mouse will help thick hair feel a lot lighter and weightless. It's also great for fine, flat hair to look and behave like naturally thick, full hair.
The next product-Ag Firewall. This is the first step before using hot tools. You need to use a heat protectant before using any sort of heat, whether that be blow-drying your hair, curling, straightening, or even just touching up pieces throughout the week. I've searched long and hard for the perfect heat protectant, one that wasn't sticky or made my hair feel greasy. I came across this product at a hair show I went to about 6 years ago now, I instantly fell in loved and haven't looked back since. This product is a smoothing argan oil and flat iron spray. It provides a high shine, a smooth protective barrier between your hair and your hot tools and prevents breakage. Spray this from the mid-shaft/ends of the hair before using any hot tools.
The Next Product-Drybar Tripple Sec 3 in 1 is one of my all time favorites. It's used after hot tools to perfect the end result hairstyle. This product texturizes, amplifies and refreshes. I use this as a 'day after' product, to go a little bit longer without having to use a dry shampoo. This acts as a really lightweight dry shampoo and helps volumize the day after roots that might be getting weighed down. I also love using this product on my face framing layers to create ends that piece apart and flow effortlessly instead of getting weighed down. The best look for the day after hair.
The Next Product-Money Maker Flexible Hold Hairspray. I use this after styling the first time so I'm only using this product once or twice a week. I use this right after I have curled my hair while my curls cool. After the curls have set I comb through my curls with my fingers to break them up a little more, it's also the perfect product to help contain flyaways. You can use this near the root to help tame flyaways without making your hair too sticky or flakey looking.
The last product-Ouai dry shampoo foam.
I've heard so many great things about this product and I knew I had to try it out. I had never tried a dry shampoo mousse before and was really curious to see how my hair would feel compared to the normal dry shampoos out there. If it would leave my hair without any greasy feeling and how the overall texture would be after using it. I have to say I really do love it. There isn't a baby powder texture like the normal dry shampoo which I really like, you can't feel the layer of product that normal dry shampoos leave. Sometimes regular dry shampoos leave your hair chalky looking or feeling and this just looks and feels like your normal hair. Work the product working from scalp to ends the mousse when you continuing to massage it into the scalp slowly turns from a mousse into a powder.
